Deborah Kay Nees
Representational Artist and Certified
Instructor
A native of northwestern Pennsylvania, Debbie Nees has
relocated to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia via southwest Florida. She
holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Catawba College, Salisbury, North Carolina.
Debbie has always held a strong affection for all the arts.
While working professionally in both human service and human resource fields and
in between raising four children Debbie expressed her creativity with crafts
such as ceramics, pottery, sculpture, and needlecraft. She settled into
two-dimensional representation in the early 1980's. A fascination with the
TV artists led Debbie to become certified in method painting in 1993.
Since, she has developed her own style using both traditional and method
techniques. With children grown and careers behind her Debbie is able to
concentrate on her passion of painting. She maintains an art studio in her
home in Bryce Resort, where she paints daily and teaches regularly.
Debbie is an active participant in TEAM (Teachers and
Educators of Art Materials). She belongs to three of seven national regions
and travel
teaches in many locales east of Mississippi.
Debbie also belongs to local and regional art
guilds/associations and participates in juried shows winning several awards.
Debbie maintains a body of work and has held several solo shows in recent years.
Debbie says the most important aspect of painting is when the
canvas comes alive and takes on its own personality. Refusing to settle into any genre, Debbie continues to stretch her abilities by
changing the focus of her subject matter and painting medium as her spirit
dictates.
